Natural stone & marble bathrooms in Gerrards Cross

We install fit-only, luxury bathrooms for homeowners across Gerrards Cross, the affluent Buckinghamshire commuter village near Beaconsfield and Chalfont St Peter, around 25 to 30 minutes from our Bracknell base. A growing number of those projects now specify natural stone or marble — Carrara, travertine, honed limestone — rather than porcelain, and that choice changes several things about how the room gets built, from the adhesive under the stone to how the grout lines are spaced. You source the slabs or tiles, the sanitaryware and brassware; we handle the strip-out, first-fix, stone-fixing, plumbing and snagging.

What changes when the spec is marble rather than porcelain

Carrara and other calcareous marbles are porous and chemically reactive in a way porcelain simply isn't. They need a penetrating sealer before grouting to stop the stone absorbing adhesive moisture unevenly, and a second seal once the installation is finished, or you'll see staining around the shower tray and etching wherever an acidic product has touched the surface. The adhesive bed has to be considered too: a standard grey cementitious adhesive can show through pale, translucent marble as shadowing, so we specify a white, polymer-modified adhesive with controlled moisture release for anything light-coloured or book-matched. Grout width and movement-joint placement also need more care than on a porcelain job, because the aim with a quality marble is usually a near-continuous surface, and a wide or inconsistent joint undermines that.

Travel, access and the realities of a commuter-village job

Gerrards Cross is around 25 to 30 minutes from our Bracknell base, which we factor into scheduling stone deliveries and the sequencing of trades on site — slabs are heavy, need careful handling on arrival, and a delayed delivery has a bigger knock-on effect on a stone job than on a standard tiling job, since the substrate prep and movement-joint layout are planned around the exact slabs being used. We plan the programme with that in mind so the strip-out, first-fix and stone-fixing stages run in the right order without the room sitting idle waiting on material.

The installation process for a stone bathroom

After strip-out, we assess the existing substrate for level and rigidity, since stone's weight and movement behaviour demand a sounder base than lightweight porcelain does. First-fix plumbing is set out to your agreed layout, a waterproofed substrate is built up, and large stone pieces are dry-laid first so veining and pattern-matching are checked before anything is fixed permanently. Adhesive, movement joints and grout are chosen to suit the specific stone, followed by sealing, then sanitaryware and brassware fitting and a full snag before handover.

Carrara is a calcareous, porous stone that absorbs moisture and can stain or etch without a penetrating sealer applied before grouting and again once installed. Porcelain is non-porous and doesn't need this step.
