Natural stone & marble bathrooms in Sunningdale

Golf gives Sunningdale its name recognition, and the large detached properties around the courses — Victorian and Edwardian houses, inter-war family homes, and more recent executive-style builds, many on private or gated roads — tend to sit on plots generous enough to give real flexibility over bathroom layout. That flexibility counts for more than usual when the spec calls for honed limestone or another natural stone rather than porcelain, because moving a waste run three feet to position a freestanding bath under a continuous stone surface, something rarely constrained by neighbouring structure on these plots, has to be planned alongside the stone's own requirements for substrate, adhesive and sealing. We fit the stone you've sourced — strip-out, first-fix, stone-fixing, plumbing and snagging.

Honed limestone and natural stone: what's different from porcelain

Honed limestone has a soft, matte surface rather than a polished one, which shows scratches, etching and staining more readily if it isn't sealed correctly before grouting and again once installed. Being calcareous, it reacts to acidic cleaning products in a way porcelain never will, so the aftercare routine has to be set out clearly at handover. The adhesive underneath also needs to change: a standard grey cementitious adhesive can leave visible shadowing beneath pale limestone, so we use a white, polymer-modified, rapid-set adhesive with controlled moisture release instead. Movement joints need more careful placement too, since limestone slabs are typically larger and heavier than standard tiles, and an undersized or badly positioned joint risks cracking as the substrate settles.

What Sunningdale's plots allow for layout

The generous plot sizes around Sunningdale, especially on the private and gated roads near the golf courses, usually mean more flexibility on layout than a terraced or semi-detached property allows elsewhere. Moving a waste run three feet to accommodate a freestanding bath under a limestone surround is rarely constrained by neighbouring structure here, which gives us room to design the stone layout — slab direction, movement joints, falls to any wet-room drain — as a single coherent plan rather than working around fixed pipework. That's particularly valuable with natural stone, where the visual effect depends on minimising joints and keeping veining or tonal variation reading as one continuous surface.

The process, start to finish

Strip-out comes first, along with a check of the existing substrate for level, rigidity and damp. First-fix plumbing is set out to the agreed layout, including any waste relocation the plot allows, and a waterproofed, rigid substrate is built to suit the stone's weight. Large limestone pieces are dry-laid to check tonal match before fixing with the correct adhesive, movement joints are placed at junctions and changes of plane, and the stone is sealed after grouting. Sanitaryware and brassware are fitted last, followed by a full snag before handover.

Arrange your survey

Because limestone and other natural stone need the substrate, adhesive and sealing planned around the specific material, every project starts with a £125 paid survey, where we look at the room and the stone you've specified and confirm an accurate quote. Fit-only installations start from £3,500. Call or WhatsApp 07399 651836 to book.

Frequently asked questions

We're fit-only, so you source the stone, sanitaryware, brassware and any tiles. We handle strip-out, first-fix, stone-fixing, plumbing and snagging from £3,500.

Honed limestone has a soft, matte, porous surface that scratches, stains and etches more easily without a penetrating seal applied before grouting and again once installed. Porcelain doesn't need this.

Often yes. The generous plots around Sunningdale, particularly near the golf courses, usually give more flexibility to relocate a waste run than a terraced or semi-detached property would allow.

Yes. We use a white, polymer-modified, rapid-set adhesive with controlled moisture release for pale stone like limestone, since standard grey adhesive can cause visible shadowing beneath it.

We assess the existing room, the stone you've specified, and what the plot allows for layout, then confirm an accurate fit-only quote before any work is booked.
