Large format porcelain tiling in Virginia Water
Virginia Water is known for its large detached properties, many close to the Wentworth Estate and its golf courses, set on generous plots with long driveways and, in a number of cases, gated or private road access. Properties range from substantial period houses to more recent executive-style builds, and the plot size generally gives us more flexibility on layout than a terraced property allows — including repositioning a shower to improve natural light, which changes how we think about tile colour and slab orientation as much as plumbing. We work fit-only, from £3,500, with you sourcing the sanitaryware, brassware, tiles and furniture.
Repositioning for light changes more than the plumbing
When a layout allows us to move a shower or bath to catch more natural light — something the generous plots around Virginia Water often make possible — it's worth thinking about how that affects the tiling too. A large format slab with minimal grout breaks up far less light than a small-format tile grid does, so a brighter spot in the room reads even brighter once it's tiled in large porcelain. We'll talk through slab orientation and finish with you at survey stage, because a floor laid in one continuous direction toward a window reads differently to one broken into a grid.
Moving a waste run without hitting a structural wall
The same plot size that gives scope for repositioning a shower also tends to give us room to relocate a waste run to accommodate a freestanding bath, without running into a structural wall the way a tighter, older terraced property often would. Whenever a layout changes, the new floor area gets exactly the same flatness check and full adhesive bed as the rest of the room — a layout change is not a shortcut around proper substrate prep.
What a flat substrate actually requires
Large format porcelain slabs are rigid and unforgiving of dips in the floor beneath them — any variance shows as a rocking corner, a shadow line, or a stress crack once the slab takes weight. Before tiling, we check the substrate with a straight edge across the whole floor area, correct any low or high points with self-levelling compound or additional board, and only then start laying, with full adhesive coverage and levelling clips to keep every slab edge flush with its neighbour.
Arrange a survey
We start with a paid £125 survey to check the substrate, talk through layout options including repositioning for light, and confirm access before you order tiles. Call or WhatsApp 07399 651836 to book a Virginia Water survey.
Frequently asked questions
Often, yes — the generous plots common around Virginia Water tend to give us more flexibility on layout than a smaller property, though it depends on the waste run and what the survey finds.
Yes — laying slabs in a continuous direction toward a light source generally reads brighter and more seamless than breaking the floor into a grid, so we discuss orientation with you before fitting starts.
We correct it before tiling with self-levelling compound, additional boarding, or both — large format porcelain is rigid and will show or crack over an uneven substrate.
Yes, we confirm access arrangements at survey stage so deliveries and our visits run smoothly on the day.
